Faith Uncut

Asking and sometimes answering tough questions about faith, religion and culture.

Gen Xodus

February 18th, 2018

Gen Xodus is what we call the exodus of Generation X from our churches. A lot of attention is paid to millenials leaving but we also see Gen X'ers as a valuable bridge to the next generation. This week, we welcome Mark, a fan of Faith Uncut into the studio to help us understand the reasons Gen X'ers are leaving and how churches can adapt. We're talking mental health, therapy, women in the church, leadership, and a lot more as we explore this phenomenon.

Real Love

February 4th, 2018

The season of love is upon us! This week, we are celebrating love. When you find that special person, there is a lot of excitement and hope...that's not what this show is about. We go beyond that to discuss the the rest of love. The love that starts after that initial phase. The good stuff!

Love, Marriage, and Divorce

January 27th, 2018

We're continuing a conversation we began in 'Truth to Power' about divorce in the church. Amera and Mike discuss their own experiences with marriage and divorce and the effects it had on friends, family and their church life. We're exploring how we navigate divorce and how our faith spaces can improve their support for people who find themselves divorcing.

Put Some Respeck on Haiti and Africa

January 20th, 2018

There was a lot of discussion around disparaging comments about Haiti, African countries, and El Salvador. The language isn't coded anymore.  Do we prefer this level of honesty or the traditional coded versions? This week, we're talking dog whistles, Aristotle, Shakespeare, Climate Theory, and how the view of darkskin as undesirable evolved. We tie all of this together in one extra large episode.

Uncut AF

January 13th, 2018

This week we discuss cursing versus cussing and all manner of language. We get into the history of profanity, its church roots, kids and cussing, and what the Bible says about it all. Can you cuss? Why TF not?

Listen, learn, share.

Testimony Goals

January 4th, 2018

We're back from the holiday break with new goals. But first, we have to deal with A Very Special Testimony that generated a lot of discussion. It is an opportunity to have some uncut conversation about how we view sex, respectability, and ultimately, the people we're called to love.

The Purpose of Prayer

December 16th, 2017

Amera Bee officially joins the Faith Uncut podcast this week as a regular host! Just in time for us to discuss the Purpose of Prayer. We dig into the Harvard Prayer Study, the effectiveness of prayer, prayer weirdos, God's omniscience, meditation and Neil Degrasse Tyson. It is a lot but all of it helps us understand prayer's purpose a little better. We hope it does the same for you.

Was Jesus a Social Justice Warrior?

December 9th, 2017

This week JW is back to answer the question of if Jesus of Nazareth was a social justice warrior? We're looking at the types of things he said and did. If Christians are his followers and he was, what does that mean for us?
