We discuss Christianity, Islam, African Spirituality, and Non-Religious faith. We're covering their roots, their impact, and how they are each woven into the fabric of our culture. Beyonce, Crips, and Langston Hughes are all a part of the conversation. Join us as we continue our celebration through the lens of how we express our rich faith traditions.

Surrogacy, Suffering, & Salvation

Black women are tired! For good reason. To start the new year, we’re taking a walk through what contributes to this fatigue. One of those things is what we are traditionally taught about Jesus’ death on the cross. We’re using insight from Dr. Delores Williams to have this conversation we hope sheds some light on why it’s time to outgrow viewing black women as perpetually raising other people’s kids. Amera and Mike discuss the events surrounding the death of John Allen Chau, the self appointed missionary who proclaimed Christ to the inhabitants of the North Sentinelese islands. Then, they tackle the standards issue in the bible and what it looks like for us today. Standards have always been an issue. It’s time for an honest conversation about them and their function. 

The Language of Liberation Pt. 2 - w/ Nick Gaines

This week we expand on the Language of the Oppressed conversation as we explore the cost of liberation. Once your language serves as the needed affirmation, how do you prepare yourself for the impending losses? Your liberation does not come cheap and your language may be the thing needed to propel you and gain the allies you will need along the way. It will ground you through the uncertainty of the journey.
