Faith That Affirms: Blackness

This week, Amera and Mike explore the importance of a faith that affirms blackness. They address harmful and healthy depictions, why it is vital to the development of self-identity, and strategies for ensuring we construct healthy environments. With so many anti-black messages pressing into our collective consciousness, this isn’t just a fight in faith spaces. It is an interconnected effort to devalue so our efforts to affirm must also push back on multiple fronts. 

 

Why do black Christians worship white Jesus? Why practice a faith given to you by slave masters? Amera and Mike deal with common arguments raised and how applying a little critical thought allows for richer and historically accurate dialog. There’s a lot to address in this one. In the Middle of It - Midterm Election Roundup

This week Amera is back and we are using our platform to discuss the importance of building up a practice of political participation, especially in the non-presidential, or midterm, election cycles.  While different groups are advocating for "getting out the vote" for this specific cycle, we are advocating for a change in attitude toward political participation that will increase issue and candidate awareness and voting across various types of local, state, and national races.

 

We cover a lot of ground here. It isn’t your usual poli-tainment. One of us even makes something like a right leaning argument. 

 

This midterm is especially important. Sit with us as we explore some of the reasons why. 

Sex in the Bible: Non-Monogamy & Polyamory

This week we were joined by Ev'Yan Whitney of the Sexually Liberated Woman podcast as we explored non-monogamy & polyamory in the Bible. We trace the history of and reasons for non-monogamy, the rise of monogamy and the resurgence of an expression that was and maybe still is common. 

Ev'Yan shares her experiences transitioning from a monogamous to a non-monogamous marriage, its challenges and successes. You want to hear this story!

Social Justice is the Gospel

We are back! 

 

To kick off season 3, we are addressing The Statement on Social Justice & the Gospel signed by John MacArthur and thousands of other faith leaders. We discuss some of the affirmations and denials contained in the statement, how and why a statement like this is made in the year of our Lord 2018, and why all of these signatories miss the point. Later in the episode, we talk about that time Jesus was racist and what we can learn from it.
